Changing themes

As is apparent, I’ve implemented a new theme for this blog – Blue Zinfandel, a widget-ready theme from Brian Gardner. I’ll be playing with widgets and customising it over the next couple of weeks, so apologies in advance if you lose your way.

Many thanks to Ulf Pettersen whose Modern theme has served me well for the past 18 months.

Binary Law lives

Back from hols.

I did intend to post a couple of times whilst away, but in the end holiday is holiday and I failed to summon up any enthusiasm.

Apologies for intermittent downtime recently, which has been caused by zillions of spam comments clogging up the works.

Update: I’ve now implemented a captcha that requires commenters to enter a random word displayed as a graphic.

Why the change?

I never felt entirely comfortable blogging on the corporate (infolaw) website. WasI blogging as the corporate “we” or the individual “I”? Binary Law establishes this blog as my personal voice. It will of course also reflect, though not overtly push, my business interests.

Along with the new identity is the new URL. There is a downside to this – loss of traffic and page rank- but I hope this should be temporary.

I’ve also switched platform from Blogger to WordPress. Blogger simply wasn’t up to the task; WordPress gives me full control over content management and opens up lots of new possibilities.

In terms of layout and design there are thousands of WordPress “themes” to choose from. I’ve initially gone for Modern from Ulf Pettersen – a stylish, simple two-column design.

Over the two years since I started, posts have changed from matter-of-fact legal news and “what’s new on the legal web” items to focus more directly on issues surrounding my interest in the provision of legal information, offering some analysis and comment. I hope you’ll engage and add your own comments.

Binary Law is a continuation of my blog previously entitled “What’s new on the UK legal web?”, focussing on legal information in the digital age. I’ll blog about some of the changes in due course.

All previous posts have been imported, so for now, having found the new blog, please update your links and feedreader with the new URLs.
